Russia will provide Belarus with a $ 1.5 billion loan, but the Belarusian people must resolve the crisis without foreign intervention, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today, quoted by Reuters.
We have agreed that Russia will provide Belarus with a $ 1.5 billion government loan at this difficult time, and we will. Now, as far as is known, our finance ministers are working on the issue at a professional level, said the Russian leader in a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, reports TASS.
Putin also said that he had offered Lukashenko to make efforts to restore trade, which had declined during the coronavirus pandemic, BTA reported.
At today’s meeting in Sochi, the Russian president noted that there is a decline in world trade due to COVID-19.
Putin emphasized to Lukashenko that Russia remains the largest investor in Belarus, Reuters added.
