The number of newly infected with coronavirus in Bulgaria increased by a third compared to the previous week and returned to high levels since the beginning of August, according to official statistics.
According to the unified information portal for the period from September 28 to October 4, 1,521 new virus infections have been identified. Similar levels, about 1,500 people, were in two consecutive weeks in late July and early August. Then, however, there was a decline after the week with more cases recorded since the start of the pandemic on July 20-26 (1,674 people).
Earlier last week, Todor Kantardzhiev, a member of the National Operations Staff, said that more than 1,500 cases per week, steps could be considered to step up measures to limit the spread of the virus. However, headquarters later announced that they were monitoring 23 criteria at the same time and that decisions would be made according to them, refusing to commit to the thresholds, after which restrictions would be applied.
We are obviously in the heart of the second wave of COVID-19, but how high it will be depends on our behavior, said this morning the deputy director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Iva Hristova. According to her, the coronavirus is still spreading in groups in Bulgaria, but the trend of spreading outside the groups is expected to intensify.
