We have not passed mid-October yet and we are already almost 25 thousand infected with coronavirus, which was my optimistic scenario. This was stated to BNR by the mathematician of the National Operational Headquarters Prof. Nikolay Vitanov.

In September, the mathematician warned that 30,000 people in the country would be infected with the coronavirus by the end of October.

“As for the dead, the number is really large, but my forecast on this issue was that October would reach and exceed 1,000 people,” he said.

Professor Vitanov recalled that October is a transitional month between the relatively low levels of people infected with Covid-19 in the summer and next winter. Morbidity levels are expected to increase in November.

“What awaits us: November will combine the virus with another flu. 1,375 is today’s basic reproductive number, that is, more than 1.3, and it has been for several days, which is not good. And the best The health system cannot support this number for more than three to four weeks, which means that the epidemic is growing rapidly and this must be stopped.

The way to stop it is for people to implement these basic measures, ”said the professor.

“My calculation shows that this virus is slowly weakening, that is, mortality is decreasing. That is, the later a person becomes infected, the easier it will be. So postpone the infection,” Professor Vitanov advised.

According to him, currently 100 people infect another 130.

11.47% is the mortality from Covid-19 among patients in hospitals in our country during the first six months of the pandemic, shows an analysis of the “Hospital Index”, for which data from the Ministry of Health were used. From the start of the pandemic in March of this year until September 1, 5,340 people were hospitalized in the country with Covid-19, of which 613 died.

During the past 24 hours, 23 people have died from the infection.. New confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection in the country are also increasing: they were 587 when 4,320 PCR tests were performed. Positive samples from the day before represent 13.5% of all tests performed.
