PROF. PHOTO IVO PETROV: YOU WOULD DO IT

If this level of COVID-19 distribution is maintained, our health system will not have a problem to endure, said the national consultant in invasive cardiology Prof. Ivo Petrov in the morning block of BTV.

According to him, there are several reasons for the increase in coronavirus infections in our country in recent days. “Now tests are being done according to the testimony, and in the summer we had a lot of healthy people who were tested to travel, and that affected the statistics. Another reason is that the autumn months are approaching and we pass more time indoors with other people. ” explained Professor Petrov, but pointed out that it is better for this topic to be discussed by epidemiologists, and he is not a specialist.

Prevention is important, but not only in the form of quarantine, but also as decontamination, Petrov said. He cites a Stanford study that showed that purifying and ionizing indoor air also helps prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“We will not have a clear idea of what are the effective treatments and ways to prevent coronavirus before 2-3 years have passed and the statistics show it,” he added.

“Unfortunately, we are all trial and error, but we already know a lot about the virus, we know a lot about complications. We also know that not a few infected people handle it lightly. There are cases and cases, “said Professor Petrov.

“Initially, it was thought that people who are immunosuppressed due to weak immunity or those with cytostatics would be the most vulnerable to coronavirus infection, those with malignant tumors and systemic diseases. It plays a negative role and sometimes leads to myocarditis, that is, inflammation of the heart tissue ”, explained the cardiologist.

The pandemic also has indirect victims. This is the case for many patients with cardiovascular disease. The last two days I had three patients who told me that they had registered hours, but due to the situation with COVID-19 they did not arrive, said the cardiologist and stressed that a similar problem has already been reported in world statistics and now it reaches us, that is – complications in patients due to delay. Postponement due to fear or delay of the team due to diversion of the resource.

In Bulgaria, cardiac wards have been closed since March to care for coronavirus-infected patients. And patients who do not know come to a hospital whose cardiology ward has been converted to a COVID-19 ward and have been reassigned, Prof Petrov explained.
