The 2019 “Doctor of the Year” died of COVID-19. Professor Georgi Hubchev, 66, head of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Burgas University Hospital “Deva Maria”, was nominated this year as the best doctor in Burgas. The 19th doctor, a victim of COVID-19, had no comorbidities.
One of the most respected obstetricians and gynecologists in our country lost the battle with the infection after nearly 15 days of colleagues fighting for his life. Professor Dr. Georgi Hubchev defines himself as a phenomenon in Bulgarian medicine. And after the death of the specialist, the hospital management is willing to separate the entire medical institution for the treatment of patients with coronavirus.
The head of the obstetrics and gynecology department, Professor Georgi Hubchev, was diagnosed with coronavirus on October 2. His condition worsened, after which he was intubated.
“His wounds were definitely in the lungs. Until recently, all the other organs worked. We are talking about the kidneys, the liver, which according to the world press are affected. Not with him. I repeat, this man was extremely healthy.” . All known methods and medicines in Europe have been used for Dr. Hubchev’s treatment. 15 specialists from the hospital fought for his life around the clock. It is not clear where it was infected.
“But doctors will die. And they die from irresponsible patients. It’s almost unbelievable for a doctor to contract the virus in a neighborhood store or something. The hospital administration is ready to make it infectious, only for the treatment of coronavirus patients.
“If we can prevent this from happening later, I, with all the infrastructure that I have, the doctors are around me, we are ready to help with whatever,” said Semir Abumelich, owner of UMBAL Deva Maria.
Dr. Georgi Hubchev became a professor just a few days ago. He lost the battle with COVID-19 at the age of 66. The loss of a doctor of such rank is a loss not only for his family and relatives, but also for the whole of society, the Bulgarian Medical Union wrote.
