A lot of emphasis was placed on the expected side effects, but there really aren’t. Of course, wait 2 weeks to see if there are other reactions. It is very important to say that the first dose is not enough and we must not relax and think that we have become immortal, we must continue to wear masks and follow the measures. Permanent immunity is established only one week after the second dose.
This was what Professor Asen Baltov, director of Pirogov, told Nova TV, who was one of the first to be vaccinated on Sunday.
We don’t yet know how the disease will be treated if a person becomes infected between the two doses, the doctor said.
The number of medical workers who want to get vaccinated is definitely increasing, vaccines have arrived, people are already reading a lot about the vaccine, brochures on the subject have appeared, which are distributed by the RHI at vaccination sites. This had a positive effect. Initially, the number of enrolled in “Pirogov” was 500, at the moment there are more than 1000-1200 applicants, not including patients.
Professor Baltov announced that he decided to get vaccinated, even though he was sick, because, unfortunately, immunity is not durable and antibodies fall. Even in “Pirogov” there were cases of a doctor who fell ill a second time with all the symptoms, after having been ill once in April.
All the vaccines that will arrive in the coming months in our country are administered in two doses, explained Prof. Baltov. I prefer an informational RNA vaccine, like the one that has arrived now, because it is very innovative and I think it will build immunity faster.
Since the end of January, it is already realistic to talk about choosing a vaccine. Each vaccine will be accompanied by a brochure with a brief indication of which people with which diseases should refrain from getting vaccinated with it, so that an informed decision can be made on which one is the most appropriate, the professor said. According to him, for young and healthy people, informational RNA vaccines are a very good option.
It is not necessary for patients to undergo antibody tests, it is enough that three months have passed since the disease. We expect vaccines to build immunity for at least a year.
Prof. Baltov showed the card he received after vaccination, which contains the patient’s name, the date of vaccination, the serial number of the vial and the date the second dose is to be administered. Everyone receives such a card. According to the summary, 270 people were vaccinated in Sofia on Sunday.
We await the second large shipment, which will be able to vaccinate 30,000 people. There is a lot of work ahead for the organization, said the professor.
Don’t emphasize the box of sausages. They were brought to Canada in ice cream trucks, he added.
It is too early to loosen the measures, people will relax again, the number of cases will increase dramatically and this will make the vaccination process difficult. The number of people in intensive care units has not yet decreased. Otherwise, we have about 100 free beds and we get some rest, Professor Baltov said.
