Prof. Angelov: Out of 31 European countries, Bulgaria ranks eighth in mortality from COVID-19 (LIVE)

Between September 24 and 30, the total number of people infected by COVID-19 increased by 1,550 and 767 were cured. During that time, 111 people were hospitalized, of which 14 were admitted to intensive care units.

This was announced by the Minister of Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, during the briefing of the National Operations Headquarters.

According to him, within the European Union, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, for the period from September 11 to 24, Bulgaria ranks 25th out of 31 countries in terms of morbidity and 8th in terms of mortality. The statistics are based on a population of 100,000 inhabitants.

“In fact, intubated patients, a large percentage of them die. The fatal outcome depends on when the patient is admitted to a medical institution, what his age is and what are the diseases that accompany him,” said the Minister of Health.

The decision to return to the press conferences came from Prime Minister Boyko Borissov last week, arguing: “to provide updated information on the status of the epidemic” and in view of the emergence of seasonal viral infections and influenza. They will be held every Thursday in the health department.

The headquarters presented information on the distribution of COVID-19 in Bulgaria. The exported data is referenced by WHO and the Stockholm Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Health Minister added that due to the increase in morbidity, the epidemic emergency situation has lasted until the end of November.

“At the moment, they have been determined for the country 8,415 hospital beds for COVID-19 patients, of which 7307 for those in a simple state. As of September 30, 10.5% of the beds for patients in uncomplicated condition and 4% of the beds for patients in need of intensive care are occupied ”, explained the line minister.

According to the insufficient number of doctors it is one of the biggest problems facing our healthcare system. “The proportion of infected medical professionals increases every day. They maintain the same rate, around 5.6%, as for the whole society. At the moment, 1152 infected honeys have been reported. Specialists, of which 409 doctors and 387 med sisters, “said Professor Angelov.

There are currently 227 active cases of infected doctors and 36 of them are hospitalized. She insisted that for at least three months before, medical personnel received protective equipment.

He added that Remdesivir, which is used to treat COVID-19 patients, is also provided.

Since the beginning of the school year with a positive PCR test there are 12 children who attend kindergarten. 117 students were infected with COVID-19 and 86 pedagogues. 539 kindergarten children, 4443 students and 153 teachers were isolated. 34 groups in kindergartens and 180 classes in schools are in quarantine.

Professor Angelov clarified that the average morbidity rate in the educational system is lower than that of the entire society.
