Elaine Chao, the United States Secretary of Transportation, has announced that she will resign due to the attack on the United States Parliament.
She is the wife of the current Republican Majority Leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell. His resignation will take effect on Monday.
He said in a statement that the attack “deeply disturbed me and I simply cannot remain indifferent.”

Reuters claims, citing four people familiar with the situation in the White House, that the president has isolated himself in a small group of loyal sympathizers and attacks anyone who opposes him, including Vice President Mike Pence.
“I don’t even want to talk to him,” said a former Trump adviser when asked if he had any contact with the president recently.
Yesterday, Trump was extremely excited and moved from the Oval Office to an adjoining private living room, becoming increasingly angry and introverted. He did not allow employees to prepare messages today. “This is not a situation under control,” said a Reuters source.
The people he surrounded were Dan Scavino, director of digital communications, his personal assistant John Mackenty, business consultant Peter Navarro, speaker Stephen Miller, and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.
