If the Bulgarian court confirms the breakthrough in personal security, it means that we have a deep internal problem that compromises not only our national security, but also that of our allies, and severely discredits Bulgaria. Thus, President Rumen Radev responded to a journalist’s request to comment on the arrests of senior military officials for revealing state secrets to Russia and the subsequent expulsion of two Russian diplomats.
“Rather, the question is for those who are in a hurry to comment on a case on which the Bulgarian court has not yet ruled.” said the head of state and called instead of bragging to answer tough questions. And they, according to him, are why senior officials of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Defense, whose inspections and approvals are issued by services directly subordinate to the Prime Minister, betray our national security, and why the fact that the organization and the control of the classified information protection policy is implemented by the Council of Ministers.
The head of state said he expects not only a full investigation of the case, but also an in-depth analysis of the reasons leading to such a state of national security and effective measures to strengthen it.
Radev said the next government has a lot of work to do to restore statehood after the current prime minister.
Six people were arrested on March 19 for spying for Russia. They include senior officials from the Ministry of Defense, current and former employees of Military Intelligence, and the director of the National Assembly’s Directorate for Classified Information.
