An explosion shook the center of the American city of Nashville today. Three people were injured, CNN reported.
Police spokesman Don Aaron said the blast occurred at 6:30 am The blast smashed windows and caused property damage to surrounding buildings.
Black smoke rose in the area of the explosion and flames could be seen. There was loud thunder during the explosion. The explosion shook buildings.
Aaron said it was believed to be a “deliberate act”. Police emergency response teams immediately rushed to the scene.
Police said they responded to a shooting signal, but no immediate signs of shooting were found. However, the police noticed a suspicious car and called hazardous materials specialists. While waiting, the car exploded, the Associated Press reported.
Three people were taken to a hospital in the area of the accident, but none are in critical condition.
Several people were taken to the central police station for questioning.
Police cordoned off the area of the blast. The explosion erupted near the city hospital and one of the old parts of the city, attracting many tourists.
An investigation into the case has been launched.
The White House said that US President Donald Trump was briefed on the case.
