CSKA CEO Plamen Markov gave an interesting interview to Darik radio and dsport.bg before the important “Army” match with Swiss champion Young Boys.
Mr. Markov, what are your expectations for the third game of the Europa League groups against Young Boys?
– This match is key for our team, especially when we look at the results that the four teams have obtained so far. Key that if we win, we hope to be among the top two teams. The tie also gives us theoretical possibilities. I think the team will be extremely motivated to perform at their best and achieve a victory that will not only delight our hundreds of thousands of fans, but will also have confidence in the fight for the championship title.
After the draw with Roma, do you not regret at CSKA the loss to Cluj at the beginning? Didn’t this game fall asleep?
– I think the match with Cluj was a bit more special. In the first half the teams were even. We had a territorial advantage. It is inexplicable why in the second part things turned out like this. We made a U-turn. Cluj prevailed. Especially with the first goal there was a decline, which lasted until the end of the game.
You were in the field. Everyone talks about this artificial terrain. You even got on a bit. Is there really such a difference?
– In any case, there is a difference. But this cannot be a pretext for a negative result. Of course, the habits of the host team give them an advantage. The movement of the ball is different. I think the ball on this lawn will be faster. The fall of the ball will be different. But that’s what training is for, so that the boys “feel” the field and so that tomorrow it won’t be a problem during the game.
Clearly the focus now is on the Young Boys game. You mentioned the championship. When will CSKA start to behave like CSKA in the championship?
– It is very strange for me that the team presents itself in a radically different way, in a decent way, even good in the Europa League group and in another in the championship. It is as if we see two different teams with different players. This is probably due to some extent to motivation. I have no other explanation. When you have the opportunity to perform well in the European tournament, and by no means at a bad level, but at the same time in our country to perform mediocre … and in view of all expectations.
