Pirin Blagoevgrad’s team temporarily rose to first place in the Second League, after beating visitor Heber Pazardzhik 2: 0 in the first match of the 16th round of the second level of football in our country. The goals for the Eagles were scored by Stanislav Manolev (45) and Orlin Starokin (86), and in the 33rd Blagoevgrad they played with one man less, after Nikolay Bodurov caused a serious scandal during the match, after a fight between players, and the experienced defender tried to kick and spit at an opponent.
However, this did not help the team led by Nikolay Mitov to get something out of their visit and Heber remained sixth with 26 points. Pirin is leading with 35 and on a streak of four consecutive victories, being three points ahead of second Lokomotiv Sofia (32), who has one game less.
After just over half an hour of play, the best goal situation of the match arrived. Julian Popev perfectly centered Spas Georgiev in the penalty area, who fired, but Alexander Lyubenov intervened. Seconds later, the “greens” had another chance to score, after Nikolai Bodurov fired a shot, which, however, was too weak to make it difficult for the guests to defend.
Shortly afterwards, defender Nikolay Bodurov was fired without a red card by referee Dimitar Burov and left the “eaglets” with 10 people. First Bodurov struck an opponent with his hand in single combat in the penalty area, and then there was a collision with Heber’s players, after which the experienced defender tried to kick an opponent in the stomach.
One minute before the end of regulation time, Stanislav Manolev scored a goal for Blagoevgrad. The ball was centered on a corner kick and was intercepted with a header by Preslav Yordanv from close range, but Heber Lyubenov’s guard blocked the shot. However, the ball went to Manolev, who could not miss at the empty gate of Pazardzhik’s team base.
In the second half, Pazardzhiklii applied territorial pressure against his rival, which was logical, since Pirin had to finish the match with 10 people for Bodurov’s division. Nikolay Mitov’s team tried in various ways to attack Blagoevgrad’s goal, but the ‘eaglets’ defense worked very well and kept the momentum going for Heber’s goal.
A quarter of an hour before the end of the match Pirin made a good counterattack. Stanislav Manolev passed down the left for Julian Popev, who with his left foot led Preslav Yordanov behind Heber’s defense. The former CSKA forward shot diagonally with his left foot, but could not find the outline of the rival goal.
In the 84th minute Orlin Starokin scored his first goal on his debut in the Pirin jersey. The hosts made a great counterattack after Preslav Yordanov deftly saved the ball and passed it accurately with a pass between two Heber players down the left to Starokin. The Pirin midfielder shot with his left foot and went through Lyubenov for 2: 0.
