The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, does not see the need for an annex to the Treaty of Friendship with Bulgaria. As for Bulgaria, we did our best, the president said in an interview with Macedonian national television, BTA reported.
“We try to tell the Bulgarian side that if they were in our place, they wouldn’t want to negotiate on some things. Language and identity are basic human rights and no one can tell them who they are and what they are,” Pendarovski said. .
He added that two months ago he had a long and meaningful dialogue with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, who later insisted on adding an annex to the Treaty of Friendship. Radev said that the Bulgarian side must have a written guarantee that we will implement the 2017 Treaty, said Pendarovski, who replied that he did not see the need to do so.
The president of the Republic of North Macedonia also said the two countries were embroiled in an “imposed political dispute”.
