After more than 10 hours of talks in Moscow, the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers agreed to a truce in Nagorno-Karabakh. The ceasefire takes effect today at 12 noon.

Negotiations between Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Ceyhun Bayramov, negotiated by his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, began yesterday afternoon and ended with an agreement this morning.

Lavrov announced that after the armistice takes effect this afternoon, the warring parties will begin exchanging prisoners and the bodies of those killed in the two-week fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh. After that, Baku and Yerevan will start direct talks with the aim of soon reaching a peaceful solution to the conflict, Lavrov added.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers arrived in Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who held a series of telephone conversations with the leaders of the two countries, Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev.
