Payment with a smartphone via the Google Pay app is now possible in Bulgaria, as well as Austria, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal and Romania, MasterCard announced on Tuesday.

Thus, users with Android devices can use their smartphones to make contactless, secure, fast and convenient purchases in physical stores, as well as online.

The service will be available to cardholders issued by Banca Transilvania, Bunq, CEC Bank, Curve, LHV Pank, Monese, N26, Revolut, Swedbank, Unicredit Bank Romania, Viva Wallet and others.

Along with them, in our country the new service is also available for users of the mobile wallet phyre from the Bulgarian technology company Paynetics. The innovative model that the company and Mastercard have built provides a ready-to-use infrastructure ecosystem for mobile applications, providing quick and easy implementation of the solution by Paynetics partners in Bulgaria and the UK. In this way, the wallets remain compatible with each other and cardholders share funds freely.

Since the start of the pandemic, contactless transactions in Europe have grown by almost 80%, according to MasterCard. As consumers began to use less cash, many accepted contactless payments as a safe, convenient and fast option – a change that is expected to stand the test of time. The new Google Pay presentation is an example of Mastercard’s ongoing commitment to innovation that simplifies people’s daily lives and makes payments even more secure.

To make a payment, users do not need to download the mobile application from Google Play, they only use the payment function built into the operating system by selecting the “Add to Google Pay” button in the participating mobile banking applications to add their Mastercard. explains the card operator.

Once the card is added, users can use their mobile device to pay wherever contactless transactions are accepted: network of stores, services, festivals and more. The mobile app does not need to be Google Pay and no internet connection is required.
