The National Assembly ratified the loan agreement between the European Union as the lender and the Republic of Bulgaria as the borrower. The EU grants Bulgaria a loan with a maximum amount of 511 million euros, with a maximum average maturity of 15 years.
The loan was requested by our country under the European Instrument for Temporary Support in order to mitigate the risks of unemployment in extraordinary circumstances (SURE) after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The loan is to complement national efforts to address the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and its socio-economic consequences for workers and the self-employed. The funds will provide liquidity to finance the costs necessary for the payment of compensation to employers and funds to maintain the employment of employees in the amount of BGN 1 billion.
