The Reporters Without Borders group announced its outrage at the refusal of the Bulgarian chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev to investigate the beating of journalist Dimitar Kenarov by the police. The group’s website called for a new transparent investigation.
It seems that the Bulgarian authorities do not want to condemn the police attack. The Association of European Journalists says the prosecution refused to launch an investigation into Keranov’s arrest on January 22.
The case is from September 2. Later, Kenarov was arrested while covering anti-government protests.
It is said that he covered events for Foreign Policy and the BBC. It is believed that he was detained for almost five hours without access to a lawyer.
He had been brutally beaten before. A police investigation claims that he was summoned to the police station after differences of opinion with police officers, and the thesis was fully accepted by the Attorney General.
It is alleged that journalist Nikolay Doichinov also announced that he was attacked by the police during the protest.
