President Rumen Radev has announced the date of the spring parliamentary elections. The vote will take place on April 4, so the head of state has already signed a decree.
According to Radev, the elections are becoming crucial. He highlighted the need for changes in the Electoral Code, which should not be limited to guaranteeing the right to vote for those in quarantine.
“I hope that the legislator will consider and vote on other proposals such as voting by mail for Bulgarians abroad, video surveillance in polling stations and the transmission of the process of scrutiny and elaboration of electoral protocols,” he added.
The head of state insisted that the responsibility of the institutions depends on the preservation of people’s health, guaranteeing the right to vote for all Bulgarians, the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process.
According to him, although it has long been known that the elections will be held in a pandemic, none of the responsible institutions has taken the appropriate legal and organizational measures under the current conditions.
“I thank everyone who responded to my invitation for consultations. Open discussions showed that questions are more than answers,” he addressed the participants in the “Dondukov” 2 meetings.
According to him, there was a general consensus that the responsible authorities should announce clear sanitary measures as soon as possible. “They are crucial for the electoral campaign, for the election of the members of the electoral commissions and for the participation”, explained the president.
The head of state requested clarification on the electoral administration at all levels and from “Information services, as well as updating the voter lists.
Radev explained that he hopes that the CEC will enable all political entities and public organizations that wish to participate in the process of certification and testing of voting machines as soon as possible. For the last batch of them, you received the guarantee that it would be delivered 25 days before the vote.
