English champions Liverpool have officially announced the hiring of long-awaited defender Ozan Kabak from Schalke 04. The 20-year-old defender will spend the rest of the season on loan at Anfield. He is expected to travel to Merseyside later this week after undergoing medical exams earlier today.
The 20-year-old will initially arrive on loan, and the ‘reds’ will have the opportunity to buy him at the end of the season for some £ 18m plus bonuses. Liverpool will pay 1 million pounds and an additional 500 thousand for the rent, depending on the number of games played.
Team principal Jurgen Klopp is in serious trouble on defense this season with long-lasting injuries to Virgil van Dyke and Joe Gomez, prompting midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to make up for their lack of defense.
Kabak is a product of the Galatasaray Academy, but came to Schalke from Stuttgart in 2019 and has 42 appearances for the club. The defender also has seven appearances for the Turkish national team.
He will play at number 19 for Liverpool.
Previously, the champions also attracted second division defender Ben Davis from Preston North End.
