“Paragraph 22” during COVID-19! No CRP test, no doctor, no ambulance, no hospitalization: what about deteriorating patients treated at home? The example is with a family from Sofia, who for days was left without hospital care in the vortex of the system.

23.6% of those examined during the day have coronavirus

Boryana Nikolova, her husband, and their son are receiving home treatment. At one point, however, the man deteriorated and had to be hospitalized.

“My husband felt bad. We were under the indirect supervision of the GP the whole time. In his opinion, it was concluded that it was probably better to be hospitalized. I called 112 to request a home visit. I described all the symptoms and the general condition of my husband. The ambulance immediately told me that they did not know when they could come, “said the woman.

The family has not had PCR tests for various reasons: labs are busy, GPs do not give referrals, RHIs have not performed a test either. However, hospitalization is not possible without a coronavirus test.

“The only way, if you haven’t had a CRP test, is to call an ambulance. I think once you have all the symptoms available, the best thing you can do is stay home, treat at home, and don’t do lines in queues, where most people may not be infected. That’s why we stayed home and decided that this was the correct assessment, “said Boryana Nikolova.

After 3 in the afternoon, the woman decided to call 112 again. However, she received a response that a patient with a coronavirus had been ordered since 9 in the morning. Finally, an ambulance doctor consulted the family by phone to continue treatment at home.

“If an ambulance had taken him, it turned out that he could have spent more than 4 hours in a buffer room or in the ambulance itself. Because during this time the beds are filled, if there are free ones. He was in a dead end. I even thought to go to Ruse, but they told me there are no places there either, ”said Boryana Nikolova.
