Nissan leaves Europe

Nissan Motor Co Ltd will withdraw from Europe and all minor markets to strengthen its position in the United States, China and Japan, according to Reuters. The company will officially announce its new strategic plans on May 28.

The Japanese anti-crisis program aims to neutralize the consequences of former President Carlos Gon’s aggressive policy. Nissan will focus much of its efforts on restoring its image in the United States, where the expansionist quest for greater market share has led to a devaluation of the brand. As part of the three-year plan, the company will attempt to rebuild its dealer network and upgrade its range to become profitable again.

“This is not just a cost reduction plan. We are reorganizing our operations, setting new priorities and goals,” a Nissan source told Reuters.

The new strategy for the development of the company is based on competitiveness and expanding cooperation with strategic partners. Nissan will develop a plug-in hybrid based on Mitsubishi and will seek help from smaller manufacturers to strengthen its position in Asian markets outside of China and Japan.
