The BSP was seduced by carrots and beaten with a stick, but did not enter into hidden agreements to rule the country and remained a “strike opposition”. This was stated by the leader of the BSP, Cornelia Ninova, in her political report to the members of her party in the Congress of the Socialist Party.
Ninova spoke for about an hour and several times requested that the BSP want to take over the government of the country, but will not reach an agreement with GERB. “Every party, looking at her navel, miss Bulgaria“he said, and then emphasized that any party that has” embraced GERB “then does not enter parliament.

He stressed that “no deputy” of the BSP will support the draft of a new constitution of the ruling party and demanded the resignations of the prime minister and the chief prosecutor. He also said that the party was not divided.
Later, the socialist Yanaki Stoilov launched the idea that the BSP candidates for mayors and deputies would be elected as president of the socialists, directly from the party members.
The 50th Congress of the BSP is the first in which no party leader will be elected. Two weeks ago, Ninova won the direct election for president with more than 80% support. His opponents were the parliamentarians Kiril Dobrev, who received 14.9%, Krassimir Yankov (2.1%) and Valeri Zhablyanov (1.4%).
The big decision: who will be part of the new National Council
Congress is very important for the socialists because they have to elect a new National Council, which will be made up of 185 people.
Voting for the new National Council is expected to begin around 8 p.m. Saturday, the voting will be secret, and the countdown is expected to continue throughout the night. The results will be clear on Sunday morning.
This is the key point for both Ninova and the internal opposition, because it can end the internal party struggle or continue it. The implementation of policies and decisions depends on the National Council (NA) of the BSP, which has the opportunity to embarrass the policies of the President and Ninova knows this very well, because over the years this has happened to her several times. . For this reason, it is important for both her and her opponents to have as many representatives as possible.
According to the BSP statute, the National Council makes all the important decisions. Develops and conducts party policy, directs and coordinates the activities of local structures, adopts rules for party activities and functioning, carries out coalition interaction, makes decisions on party participation in elections, he approves party candidates for president and vice president and also makes decisions. for participation in the executive branch.
The National Assembly legitimately includes the party leader, the chairmen of the youth and women’s movement in the BSP, and the head of veterans, as well as a representative from each of the 31 constituencies. About 800 candidates compete for the vacancies. 20% of the vacant seats in the National Council are reserved for young socialists.
“GERB will not receive a single vote from the BSP for a new constitution”
During her speech, BSP leader Cornelia Ninova announced that no BSP MP would support the hastily drawn up draft of a new constitution. Some time ago, the party came out with a position that it will not speak to GERB on this issue and is against the convening of the Supreme National Assembly.
However, Ninova’s words come after Prime Minister Boyko Borissov’s party continues to repeat that they are seeking the support of individual MPs from parties who have come out against it.
There have been cases of unique support in the past in the ranks of the BSP. For example, at the end of 2019, 27 socialists supported the election of former chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov as head of KPKONPI, even though the party had decided to vote against it.
Now the goal of the socialist leader is to show that this will not happen.

“The triple hidden coalition is ready to be formalized”
He also stressed that the Socialists will not participate in a cabinet of experts. This possibility has been talked about for months, but the MRF officially launched the idea in early September. Ninova emphasized that Prime Minister Boyko Borissov also announced that this was the best option for GERB, and his United Patriots partners even called for a cabinet of experts.
“The tripartite coalition, which has so far ruled covertly, is ready to formalize its union ostensibly on behalf of Bulgaria, but in fact to save the status quo and assure Borisov a comfortable resignation. Who do you miss in the puzzle of this comfort? BSP. Although they have a mathematical majority in the National Assembly without the BSP, they lack political comfort. The BSP will not participate in this conspiracy. The BSP will not enter the rear power entry.“Ninova said, referring to the fact that GERB and the United Patriots still unofficially rule the MRF.
Ninova also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev from the rostrum.
“We deserved to drive, but we will enter through the main entrance”
“Bulgaria needs a new development path and we socialists have won the right to claim governance“Ninova added.
The socialist leader said that the party deserved to govern, but that it would only come to power through the “front door.” “After four years of effort and work, it is time to achieve this success. Not for poles, but for levers to change Bulgaria. It won’t be easy, but we’ve found that difficult things don’t scare us“Ninova added.

He tried to credit BSP for the outbreak of the protests, but then announced that “we do not want to mount the protest, we do not want to appropriate it, we support it“.
According to her, when the BSP spoke about the parallel state in 2016, people were paralyzed with fear, and now there are thousands on the streets who are against what socialists have been speaking out for years.
“The party is not divided“
In his speech, he paid special attention to the issue of party division.
“By direct choice, he smashed the lie that the BSP is divided, that there is a division, that we are falling apart. I always ask a question. What party is it? The party is not the president, nor the individual members of the National Council. The party is you, our members, and you have to be absolutely blind or very well paid to affirm that in a party that votes 70% of the members and 80 of them support a political course, it is divided.Ninova said.

According to her, in the direct election the party members did not support a specific person, but rather policies that the party should follow for the next 4 years.
He added that consolidation is necessary, but not behind the scenes and not with people using the policy for personal gain.
“Big minds discuss ideas, middle minds discuss events, and small minds discuss people. Ignore the little minds“, she said.
Yanaki Stoilov: BSP members will directly elect candidates for deputies and mayors
During the congress, the socialist Yanaki Stoilov proposed changes to the party’s statutes so that members of the BSP could directly elect their candidates. He proposed that the change in the statute be made at the next meeting of the 50th party congress. According to him, this would increase the staffing capacity of the BSP.
“The conversation is whether we can start a new transition. We should not be satisfied that we have almost equal positions with GERB; this is not due to our promotion, but to the greater outflow of support from the government.”, he said.
