In our country, hospitals specialized in the treatment of patients with coronavirus will be established, and in addition, each large medical institution will be required to open 200 COVID beds. This will be written in a new order from the Minister of Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov.
Today, in a meeting between him and the hospital directors, the decision was made to optimize the process: to open more beds in large hospitals. “We were ready, when we reached 4,000 people, to create specific structures for the treatment of COVID patients,” Professor Angelov later told reporters.
In all regional hospitals with more than 600-700 beds in the territory of Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna and Pleven will create structures with 200 beds. In Sofia, these are “St. Anna”, “Sofiamed”, “Tokuda”, Alexandrovska, “Pirogov”, MMA.
At Ivan Rilski Hospital, COVID patients will be housed in rheumatology. The beds will also be revealed in orthopedics at Gorna Banya.
The Chief State Health Inspector is assigned to analyze the situation in Bulgaria, the stay and the meetings with the expert councils. At the end of the day, the order will be issued and the principals are already working to secure the beds. According to Angelov, there is currently no shortage of beds in Sofia.
The new organization emerges amid a record number of new infections and dozens of deaths from COVID-19 in one day. There are also a large number of public knowledge cases where ambulances surround hospitals and cannot accommodate a patient in serious condition due to lack of beds in hospitals.
Two days ago, the Minister of Health directly accused the hospitals of failing to comply with the order to prepare for the reception of COVID patients on time.
During today’s government meeting, it became clear that the tourism industry is ready to provide hotels for quarantined accommodation. There will be such sites across the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Mariana Nikolova.
According to her, by the end of the day it will be clear exactly what the industry can offer, but there is already availability on the territory of the capital and the Sofia region.
