Look what it is
Research has found that an experimental flu drug is capable of completely halting coronavirus transmission within 24 hours, Europa Press reported, cited by Dariknews. It’s called MK-4482 / EIDD-2801, better known as “molnupiravir.” The drug can be effectively involved in fighting the virus and its spread to the large-scale supply of COVID-19 vaccines.
The study was conducted by a team of researchers from the Institute of Biomedicine at the University of Georgia, USA.
How and under what conditions is a new quarantine required
“This is the first demonstration of an oral drug that can rapidly block the transmission of SARS-CoV-2,” the researchers said in a publication in the scientific journal Nature Microbiology.
The characteristics of the drug, which can be taken orally, allow treatment to start early. This may not cause complications for the patient.
COVID-19 vaccines will not be mandatory in the United States
The researchers tested ferrets, a species they consider an appropriate transmission model due to their ability to spread the virus, and found that once the drug was administered, they did not transmit the disease to other animals.
