Inspections will be intensified across the country.

In the first weekend after the removal of checkpoints, traffic police began massive inspections across the country.

The action began yesterday afternoon, controlling “the entire palette of traffic law.” The reason is the increased traffic, which the police expect at the end of the first weekend without the checkpoints.

Statistics show that in just two days after the checkpoints were removed, on May 6 and 7, there were 64 traffic accidents in Bulgaria, five people died and 34 were injured.

During the first two weekends after the removal of checkpoints in the district cities, the police took to the roads. “The entire palette of traffic law will be strictly controlled by colleagues,” explained Chief Inspector Nikolay Krusharski of the Traffic Police.

Checkpoints have been removed, free travel between cities

Mainly drug and alcohol tests will be carried out. Speeding will also be monitored. “The control will be carried out only by the employees of the Traffic Police. And speed means. On highways, interurban highways and small settlements and large cities. In the main boulevards, there is the highest concentration of this type of violation,” added the chap. Commissioner Krusharski.

The action was triggered by the fact that in recent days the traffic is heavier. And this creates preconditions for accidents. Part of which is fatal. Like the one that happened last night near Karlovo, when a car collided with a jeep. The accident killed two people, brothers, 32 and 35 years old. The men traveled in the jeep. The driver of the car and his partner were taken to the hospital for examination. There are no serious injuries.

According to the Interior Ministry, during the state of emergency, there has been a decrease in the number of traffic accidents and serious victims. Therefore, during the last almost 2 months, the number of serious traffic accidents is 317 less compared to the same period last year, and the number of victims is 26 less. The police operation will continue until tomorrow afternoon.
