Former Foreign Minister and former Bulgarian Ambassador to Turkey Nadezhda Neynsky will be Bulgaria’s candidacy for Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, also known as the Black Sea Union.

Next week, the Bulgarian government must approve Neinsky’s nomination, Chasa has learned.

The candidacy for secretary general of the organization will strengthen Bulgaria’s commitment to the Black Sea region, the government said.

So far, Ukraine has nominated its candidate for the general secretary of the BSEC, and this is its deputy foreign minister, Vasil Bodnar.

Neinsky was the Bulgarian ambassador to Turkey from mid-2015 until a week ago. In fact, he had one of the longest ambassadorial terms, with his stay in Ankara initially extended due to the Bulgarian presidency of the European Union, and subsequently due to the two-year blockage of talks between the government and President Rumen Radev on diplomatic transfers.

The current Bulgarian ambassador in Paris, Angel Cholakov, a former adviser to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, has already accepted the post in Ankara. Radev accepted Cholakov’s new appointment after the government handed over the post in France to his adviser Nikolai Milkov.

The establishment of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization took place in the 1990s at the suggestion of Turkey. It currently has Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.
OCHIC aims to support regional projects in tourism, commerce, finance, communications, transport, energy, health, etc.

The organization’s main strategic project is the construction of a road ring on the shores of the Black Sea.
Last year, Bulgaria was the rotating president of the organization.
