Poison Trio member Velislav Minekov confirmed to BTV that the initiators of the protests will sue the Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva. On September 11 he announced to the same media that the mafia and the oligarchs were behind the trio, even specifying the name of the accused businessman Vasil Bozhkov.
In response to his words, Minekov explained how the protests were financed. He remarked several times that he did not know “Mr. Skull” (nickname by which Bozhkov is known). The sculptor even announced that the current Minister of Culture had sold his works to Bozhkov, thus making a reference to the current GERB deputy Vezhdi Rashidov.
“We are funded with a clear campaign. We have a bank account and significant funds have been earmarked for it, but unfortunately it has almost been spent. At first we funded ourselves. In just one day of bank account opening, BGN 24,000 was raised “, said. Minekov clarified that hardly anyone who has donated once would do so again.
According to him, if there is a problem with the financing of the protests, the services can check where the donations come from. He explained that the money raised reached almost 100,000 BGN and was spent on publicity material, T-shirts, sounding the protests every day, eggs and toilet paper. He stressed that, as a sculptor, he had long spoken out against Bozhkov’s collection of historical objects. Many of his antiques were confiscated by prosecutors during an investigation against him since the beginning of the year.
“I have been speaking out against the collection of this same Skull for years. His collection was toured by a world minister. It was displayed in the National Gallery. This is not the only collection of its kind. Why is it not the same attitude towards other collections? Because then the state will explode. ” Minekov added, then attacked a former culture minister who sold his works to Bozhkov while he was in office. A report by Dnevnik shows that Vezhdi Rashidov is the only sculptor to have held the position in recent years.
“For a former Minister of Culture, his works were bought by Skull himself. At that time he was acting minister and sculptor. A separate Law on Cultural Heritage was made for him. The man in question bought works from my friends, but not me”. Minekov added.
He added that he had received threats from “what we define as a mafia.” That is why he warned “very beautiful places, a little European and a little overseas.”
