Barcelona played their best game since the start of the season and beat Valladolid 3-0 as a guest. Catalan captain Lionel Messi showed his familiar class, scoring the first two goals and scoring the third. With him, Messi already has 644 goals for Barcelona, which broke the legendary Pelé’s record of 643 goals for Santos. Third in the single club goal rankings is German legend Gerd Müller with 565.
Otherwise, Clement Langley gave the visitors the lead in the 21st minute, and in the 35th minute Martin Braithwaite doubled the score. Messi scored in the 65th minute after a brilliant assist from the young Pedry’s heel. With this success, Barcelona climbed to 5th place in the standings with 24 points. Valladolid remains below the line, in 18th place with 14 points.
Barcelona coach Ronald Coeman surprisingly opted for a 3-5-2 scheme, leaving the recently bankrupt Antoine Griezmann on the bench.
From the first minutes it was clear that the Catalans were playing in a good mood, since Messi had gained a lot of freedom on the pitch and created situations for himself and his teammates.
After some initial mistakes, Barça still went ahead in the 21st minute, when Messi put the ball in Langle’s head with a cross from the left wing and the French defender scored the 1: 0.
In the 35th minute Messi took Serginho Dest out of the penalty area in a wonderful way, the American found Martin Braithwaite at the far post, who scored on an empty goal for 2: 0. We suspect that the Dane is in ambush, but the repetitions “deny it.” At the end of time, Barça controlled the game and created several more advantageous situations, but a third goal did not fall.
After the break there were no changes in the events on the field, as Barça dominated and the locals defended. Braithwaite and Messi failed to raise the score in the minutes after the restart.
However, this happened in the 65th minute, when Messi scored his seventh goal since the start of the season in La Liga. Leo came out phenomenal with a heel from the young Pedri and with a diagonal kick scored the 3: 0.
After the goal, the Catalans stopped and gave Valladolid the opportunity to reduce the score. However, Roque Mesa and Orejana’s shots were deflected by Ter Stegen. In the 90th minute, a shot from substitute Filipe Coutinho was stopped off the crossbar. Shortly after, Braithwaite entered the penalty area, but shot from outside the net from a small angle.
Literally in the next attack Leo Messi also hit the right post behind Jordi Masip’s door. In the last second of the game, the Argentine tried his luck with a shot outside the area, but the home base reflected.
