Europe remains with open borders, but travel conditions may become more and more. The requirement for a negative antigen or PCR test is valid for many countries. However, it is also possible for a vaccine to become a condition for crossing a country’s border.
COVID-19: Many countries in Europe are introducing new restrictions or expanding old ones
The tourism industry would view the possible introduction of a mandatory vaccine for traveling abroad as a good step to keep calm. With the exception that it is difficult to adopt a regulation within the European Union that in some way prohibits the free movement of people. And the travelers themselves react differently. However, the majority declare that they are willing to be vaccinated only if they are obliged to do so.
Velina lives in Bulgaria, but often travels to Great Britain, where her mother is, and is convinced that she will not be vaccinated, even if that means that she will never leave Bulgaria. In his opinion, it is not so extreme Peter, who travels to Denmark. However, it considers that a vaccination obligation is more appropriate than submitting a negative test on each trip from an economic point of view.
The tourism industry believes that it is difficult to introduce an immunization passport within the European Union.
WHO does not plan mandatory vaccination
“There is no way they can make these vaccines mandatory and at the same time challenge one of the fundamental rights of movement between the countries of the European Union. Legally, I don’t think this can happen, “said Dimitar Popov, president of the Association of Travel Agencies.
However, for the industry, this measure would have a positive effect.
“Even if it is introduced, it will still be a travel relief, because all PCR tests and quarantines will be removed immediately. However, this is still a big hurdle, because no one will go to make plane and hotel reservations until be sure your test will be negative, ”Popov explained.
At this stage, only Australian airlines request a mandatory vaccination when they travel. The attitude of the tourism industry in our country is that soon we will have to get vaccinated only if we travel outside of Europe.
