English champion Liverpool defender Joe Gomez underwent knee surgery and will miss a significant part of the season, the club officially announced. Anfield added that they expect the defender to return at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old footballer was injured during a training session for the English team. The Merseysiders have already lost Virgil van Dyke, who is out until the end of the season. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is said to have missed a month, was also injured over the weekend.
Fabinho, who replaced Van Dyke in the first games as a central defender, is also in hospital, although he hopes to return after the break for the national teams. Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also treating injuries.
Currently, the only healthy center-backs are Joel Matip, who just recovered from injury, youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips.
Liverpool are expected to get stronger in January with a new player at the heart of the defense.
