Election day began in the country at 07:00 hours. In the conditions of extraordinary epidemiological situation, today we are electing deputies for the 45th National Assembly.
The topic in brief:
- 6.7 million Bulgarians have the right to elect the 240 deputies of the 45th National Assembly.
- There are 6,996 candidates, almost 2,300 more than in the 2017 vote.
- The future deputies are on the lists of 23 parties and 8 coalitions.
- There will be widespread use of voting machines alongside traditional ballots.
- The coronavirus has required strict measures against the epidemic, many sick and quarantined people will not be able to vote and we have yet to see how COVID-19 will affect participation.
- Fought battles are looming both for leadership positions in the new parliament and for entry into it.
- Whether it can elect a viable majority and a stable government will depend on the number of parties and their seats in the National Assembly.

11:40 The speaker of parliament, Tsveta Karayancheva, voted in Kardzhali with a ballot
11:20 President Rumen Radev exercised his right to vote. He chose to vote by machine.
10:40 The leader of the BSP, Cornelia Ninova, exercised her right to vote. He did it through a machine. He said he voted for change and stability.
10:30 pm According to Alpha Research Agency’s exit poll for bTV, 6% of voters went to the polls at 9:30.
10:20 The voting machine in the Veliko Tarnovo district has been suspended due to a technical problem, the CEC announced.
10:15 IMRO leader Krassimir Karakachanov exercised his right to vote in Pleven. He hopes the next parliament will be colorful and hopes to be more responsible at the national level.
9:50 pm In Stara Zagora district, Election Day started normally. There are 504 polling stations in the district, with nearly 290,000 people eligible to vote.
9:45 Under strict measures against the epidemic, voting is taking place in Turkey. There are eight sections for Bulgarians in Bursa.
9:25 Valeri Simeonov exercised his right to vote at 9 a.m. at a polling station in the Meden Rudnik district of Burgas.
9:20 MRF leader Mustafa Karadayi voted in Kardzhali with one ballot. He said he voted for the accelerated economic development of the country.
9:15 The honorary president of the MRF, Ahmed Dogan, exercised his right to vote.
9:10 The leader of the Democratic Bulgaria coalition, Hristo Ivanov, exercised his right to vote. After the elections, he hopes that a more legitimate National Assembly will be formed.
9:05 At 8:30 am, the turnout was 3.2%. This is demonstrated by the data of the Market Links agency, which works with bTV on voting day.
9 o’clock Bulgarians in Germany vote in a record number of polling stations: 69
8:30 pm. Bulgarians in the United States will vote in 35 sections. This is the maximum number of sections that can be opened in non-EU countries. If there was no limit, the sections would be 46.
8:20 Prime Minister Boyko Borissov voted in Bankya. He wished everyone success and said that GERB led the most tolerant and well-intentioned campaign.
7:15 Just over 1,200 are in quarantine in Sofia, who have requested to vote with a mobile ballot box.
