After less than three minutes of play, the “blues” made their first shot at Beroe’s door. He was part of Martín Rayno with his left foot from afar, but quite inaccurate. An attack from the left followed for Beroe, and the ball was passed to Kukula in Sofia’s penalty area. The striker returned to Makouta, who, however, was unable to shoot, slipping on the wet ground at Stara Zagora.
Levski created a strong attack in the 17th minute, when Orlin Starokin shot with his left foot into Beroe’s penalty area, but Gennady Ganev parried the ball. Teddy Mesag blocked the ball with Nigel Roberta and Stara Zagora practically neutralized the danger.
In minute 23 Beroe had reasonable claims for a penalty after Steve Furtado took the ball in the area and turned around, then Starokin did not play with the ball at all and the Beroe defender fell to the ground, but referee Georgi Ivanov ruled that a Penalty kick for the hosts should not be judged.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Toma Daske made a terrible mistake trying to clear the ball. The ball reached Steve Furtado, who crossed well to Aliun Fal, and narrowly hit and opened the scoring – 1: 0.
