Life imprisonment or punishment between 15 and 20 years in prison to punish drunk and drugged drivers who intentionally kill a person on the road.
This is what the Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev suggests. He briefed Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, the Speaker of Parliament, Tsveta Karayancheva, and the leaders of the parliamentary groups on his expert proposal.
The same punishment is imposed on drivers who kill a person on the road, but who are not licensed or drive at a speed of more than 50 km from the speed limit.
The most severe punishment will be given to drivers who intentionally killed and drove the car with more than 2 per thousand alcohol.
Geshev’s statements were announced by the spokesperson for the Chief Prosecutor Siika Mileva. He noted that the penalties imposed for causing death on the road do not correspond to the high public danger and do not guarantee justice for the victims. They classify this type of crime as a cause of death due to negligence.
Expect details.
