Kunchev: Perhaps we are on the plateau of the pandemic – Issues in development

“You can see that there is an enduring trend of increasing the number of people cured on a daily basis in the country,” Health Minister Professor Kostadin Angelov said today at a coronavirus briefing.

Vaccines against covid-19 will be available to all vulnerable groups. Vaccination will be voluntary and will not be included in the Bulgarian vaccination schedule. The vaccines will be free for all, said the Minister of Health.

He noted that hospital bed occupancy in the country is 40% overall, intensive care is 23%, but these numbers are dynamic because a complete reorganization of the health system is currently underway in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria overtook China in COVID-19 deaths

The busiest bases are in Blagoevgrad, Gabrovo, Pernik, Razgrad, Targovishte and Shumen.

There are currently 1,802 active cases of coronavirus infection among health professionals. Of these, 1,672 are in home treatment, 121 are hospitalized and 9 are in intensive care units. So far, 22 doctors have died from covid-19.

“We are doing relatively well in controlling the coronavirus epidemic,” Angelov explained.

Informative meeting of the National Operational Headquarters

In terms of morbidity at 14 days, Bulgaria ranks 16th in Europe and in terms of mortality it ranks 7th with a coefficient of 9.86. Measurable with mortality in our country are Spain and France.

“The philosophy of the measures is a limitation that would lead to a reduction in morbidity and effective control,” explained Kostadin Angelov, adding that in the municipalities the respective headquarters have the opportunity to update these measures if local morbidity represents a threat. for the health system.

“We have extremely good coordination with all municipal and district headquarters,” said the Minister of Health.

He pointed out that there will be days with lower temperatures, fog and icing, and in such conditions the corridor for visiting businesses for those over 65 will move in the afternoon. If the crowds occur within the allowed hours, the corridor will be extended.

“The pandemic continues to affect the continent to an extremely high degree, with all countries except Finland now in the red zone,” said State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev. All districts of Bulgaria are also in the red zone, since the average incidence in the last 2 weeks in the country is 518 cases per 100 thousand people.

New measures against COVID-19 starting today

With 600 and more new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a different approach will be taken in 14 days and hospitals will be built just for the treatment of covid-19, Angelov explained.

Kunchev stressed that in Bulgaria measures against the pandemic are one of the softest in Europe.

The state health inspector added that in addition to the trend to increase the number of cured, there is a certain weekly retention of the proportion of positive tests, which may indicate a plateau in the spread of the infection.

Do you believe the statistics of the Kovid-19 epidemic?

“At the end of the week in Sofia we will have 400 beds for intensive care and more than 3000 for moderately and seriously ill,” said the director of “Pirogov” Prof. Dr. Asen Baltov.

He stressed that antibiotics and corticosteroids do not cure the coronavirus. They should only be taken with a prescription and can have serious consequences.

“Corticosteroids in the early stages of the disease can cause death because they reduce immunity,” said Prof. Dr. Asen Baltov.

He explained that blood plasma and remdesivir are not universal remedies against covid-19 and their use can have even fatal consequences for some patients.

“Remdesivir is an extremely heavy preparation with side effects and not everyone should use it,” Prof. Baltov is adamant.

Regarding rapid antigen tests, he noted the following:

“When performing a rapid antigen test, it must be known that it is not yet valid for our unified information system and must be reconfirmed by a PCR test. If a person suspects that they have a coronavirus, they must isolate themselves, not allow contact with others people, because it will spread the infection and thus wait for the results of the PCR test.

“There is no definitive treatment for this disease,” said the head of the covid, the ward of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Associate Prof. Atanas Mangarov. He again criticized the quarantine measures, as his opinion was questioned by Professor Baltov.

“Everything is being done. The best thing right now is that the country is not closing,” Associate Professor Mangarov said.
