I love challenges, no matter how difficult they are! This is me! Thank you very much for the support of all those who wanted and believed in victory. “

This was written by Kubrat Pulev on his social media profiles after his fight with Anthony Joshua for the heavyweight world titles. The Bulgarian was repulsed in the ninth round when the Briton knocked him out. For Pulev, this turned out to be the second loss in his professional career, as both of the 39-year-old boxer’s losses came in world title matches.

It is not yet clear whether this will be the last game in Pulev’s career or will he continue, despite the fact that he is 39 years old. The Bulgarian is unlikely to have a new chance to fight for the world title in the heavyweight category, as the path to an official contender generally takes between two and three years.

After the match, the Bulgarian announced that he was infected with a coronavirus and this affected his preparation for the match.

“With COVID-19 and three weeks without training, that’s it. I don’t apologize, I’m guilty. I didn’t want anyone to understand, this is the situation. I’m fine now, everything is fine,” Pulev told BTV.

Pulev’s physiotherapist was infected, as was his personal trainer Uli Wegner, who is in serious condition in Germany, and only on Friday did the boxer’s trainer, Ivaylo Gotsev, test negative.

According to BTV, there was a clause in the contract between Pulev and Joshua, according to which if the Bulgarian becomes infected with a coronavirus or is injured and does not recover before December 12, the match will fail, without the right to postpone it.
