We do not anticipate a complete closure of schools, and separate classes will be quarantined until now. Where the thresholds are reached, where the district is in “red”, we will offer local measures, which means closing more classes or a school. In some cases, it may be necessary to close several schools, we are monitoring the situation across the country, Education and Science Minister Krassimir Valchev told reporters when asked what measures will be taken in schools due to the increase in cases of coronavirus in the country.

Where there are clusters, it is more worrying, to date in the secondary school “St. Sedmochislenitsi” in Targovishte seems to be the most alarming situation. That is why the school made a decision and I approved that students from 5th to 12th grade temporarily study in an electronic environment, explained Minister Valchev.

He said that “several areas are on the threshold of red values and the situation is being monitored there”, but in general no more restrictive measures will be taken and current measures must be observed. Minister Valchev said that at the Targovishte school psychologists consult students who are in great shock after the death of a teacher.

“As a consequence of the death, there is psychosis in the teachers and some of the parents, but I hope it will subside in a week,” Minister Valchev commented.

Since the start of the school year, 289 teachers have been infected with the coronavirus, as well as 286 children and students in schools and kindergartens, or the percentage of teachers is ten times higher than that of students, said the Minister of Education. He specified that there are a total of 920,000 students and children in kindergartens and 90,000 teachers, which confirms the fact that students are less ill or in most cases do not have symptoms. Right now, 8 out of 1000 are quarantined students and teachers in the education system, or 99.2 percent of the system studies in person, summarized Minister Krassimir Valchev.

He said that until now we do not have a forecast for the closure of a school in Sofia, but pointed out that the situation is dynamic.

In areas that are in the red zone due to the spread of the coronavirus, it will be mandatory for parent meetings and public council meetings in schools to be organized in an electronic environment, Minister Valchev said. He added that this measure would be recommended for other schools. In districts in “red”, multi-day excursions will be prohibited for students staying overnight, but for now there is no plan to limit one-day student visits to cultural and tourist institutions.

The students will not study on Monday, November 2, so they will rest one more day in the call. autumn holidays – from October 30 to November 2 inclusive, informed Minister Valchev.
