The country is on the verge of the impotence of the institutions to face a health crisis, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria in the period 1997-2001, Ivan Kostov, told BNR today on the occasion of the coronavirus epidemic. According to him, there should have been preparations for the peak of infected now since February. “Now we are acting with means that suggest a panic reaction,” Kostov added.

The problem for him is the lack of trust of the people in the institutions, which leads to the anti-epidemic measures not being implemented and not allowing the introduction of stricter restrictions. “The measures are constantly changing, they are being reviewed. This suggests that there is no crisis management,” he said. Kostov expressed the opinion that the statistics on the basis of which decisions are made are not qualitative.

The budget violates 23 years of financial stability

The former prime minister of Bulgaria also criticized the new budget. “The 2021 budget bill destroys a 23-year-old political consensus on the financial stability of the country. Let those who do it listen to me well. The facts show that it was achieved by the United Democratic Forces since 1997. The current financial situation The Minister Kiril Ananiev was Deputy Minister of Finance at that time and he knows very well the hardships and difficulties that we overcome to get the country out of the financial catastrophe of the Jean Videnov government. I don’t know why he has now agreed to destabilize the country’s budget to such an extent ” . He explained.

According to Ivan Kostov, the ever-increasing costs of pensions and social activities will increase the country’s debt and, with it, the interest costs for servicing it. The state will weaken and opportunities will be more limited, he concluded.
