On a sunny afternoon on May 2, 35 years ago, an impressive French team fell in Sofia from Vasil Levski’s inspired 60,000 and 11 Bulgarians.

The stands and the team became one due to the fall of the European champion (first at Euro 1984), led by the great Michel Platini.

At that time there were hardly any stronger teams in the world than the one that was defeated 2-0 in the capital of Bulgaria.

Continental champions, World Cup 82 semifinalists, and, unfortunately, left Germany with penalties there, they were ready for great things with the idea of the world title in Mexico in 1986. They played a semifinal there again. It was in qualifying for this World Cup that Bulgaria was on the way.

That afternoon, on May 2, 1985, the goals were scored by Georgi Dimitrov-Jackie in the 11th minute and Nasko Sirakov in the 61st, both fell after being centered by a corner kick.

The match remains one of the most eye-catching in the history of Bulgarian football, both for the victory and the atmosphere, and for the fact that in these rankings we finished successfully and qualified for the 1986 World Cup.

In the same spring we will be on our own soil the extremely strong lineup of Yugoslavia with 2: 1 (two goals from Plamen Getov), as well as the tough GDR with 1: 0 (Stoicho Mladenov).
