The Roma baron is buried in his father’s grave in Plovdiv

Katunitsa will not forgive the two children who died 10 years ago

Heart failure caused the death of Kiril Rashkov. The 78-year-old Roma baron died at his home in Plovdiv, where he lived, after being expelled from Katunitsa with his family. For almost 40 years he ruled the town, produced illegal alcohol, carried half of Bulgaria with it, but remained untouchable.

“Rashkov did not pay taxes, was immersed in luxury and was so absorbed in his role as Roma baron that he ordered a golden throne,” recall the locals.

The throne in question was damaged during the Katunitsa riots in 2011, when the family’s palaces were burned down. The reason for the war was a scandal between Rashkov and Veselin Hristov, son of the former mayor of the town Sofia Hristova.

On September 23, 2011, Tsar Kiro’s people came to Katunitsa from Stolipinovo, and one of them, Simeon Yosifov, ran over Angel Petrov on his bus. The 19-year-old is Hristov’s nephew. Tension erupted in the town over his death and protests continued the next day, when locals claimed a second victim.

The police prevented the bloodshed by removing Kiril Rashkov and his relatives from Katunitsa. He hasn’t been back there since.

Tsar Kiro was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months for threatening to kill Veselin Hristov and his wife. After serving my sentence, he was out of the public spotlight for a while.

In 2014, however, it was noisy again because of him.

The state prosecutor’s office concluded that the letter was not his or his family’s.

That same year, Tsar Kiro was arrested for possession of mercury and trading in archaeological treasures. The specialized court sentenced him to 2 years in prison, but at the end of last year. The Supreme Court of Cassation reduced the sentence to 8 months. One of the arguments was the deterioration of his health.

“Rashkov has serious and life-threatening diseases. There is abundant medical documentation from which it is established that he suffers from heart failure, with two heart attacks, severe diabetes and insulin depletion, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,” the decision reads.

People around him say he had a hard time with his family’s problems. His daughter Sabka has already been convicted twice. In 2012 he received 2 years of probation for possessing 131 ancient coins, two gospels and bronze applications. Last year, they were sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined BGN 50,000 for possession of 2 kg of heroin worth BGN 184,921.

“We wrote a request to stay the execution of the sentence, the Sliven prison allowed him to go to the funeral of his father,” said the family lawyer, Rositsa Draginova.

It is not yet clear if one of King Kiro’s grandsons, Angel, who is also behind bars, will be released for the funeral. He served 1 year and 2 months for drunk driving. In July of last year, he was caught driving his expensive car at 1.79 per thousand. They also found 350 xanax tablets in the car. Rashkov-grandson has 3 prior convictions for documented crimes and attempted bribery of police officers.

Tsar Kiro’s former son-in-law, Kiril Yordanov, also broke the law. He was arrested last month after a heroin drug deal.

“Although he was angry with his relatives for the crimes they committed, Rashkov did not leave them. He was interested in what they were like, he cared for them,” commented people close to the family.

The Plovdiv Central Cemetery funeral will be on Sunday. Tsar Kiro will be buried in the grave of his father Georgi Rashkov.

“A private agency has handled the funeral. As there are likely to be many people present, we will provide security.

And the police will take care of public order, “explained the head of” Funeral Services “in Plovdiv Kosta Popov.

However, no resident of Katunitsa will say goodbye to the deceased. “We will never forget and forgive the deaths of Angel Petrov and Pavel Tolev,” say the locals. “We are raising funds for a chapel at the place of his death,” said Mayor Krassimir Yurukov.
Only the children and grandchildren of two of Tsar Kiro’s deceased brothers, who caused no problems, now remain in Katunitsa.
