Luke Donkerwolke left his position as chief designer at Hyundai and Kia, but the funny thing is that he will have no successor. Well-known Belgian designer Luke Donkerwolke, former Bentley chief designer, has decided to step down as chief designer for the Kia and Hyundai brands as well as the premium Genesis brand.
According to the company, he will have no heir. According to Automotive News, Donkerwolke has decided to leave the company for personal reasons. The former chief designer, leaving, said it was a “great honor” to be responsible for the future of Korean-made cars, which allowed him “to go beyond his usual progressive views.”
Before moving to the South Korean company, Luke Donkerwolke worked at Volkswagen. He has worked for Koreans for five years, with Kona and Palisade models under his leadership. The chief designer also created the corporate identity for the Genesis brand and developed the look of the first Korean GV80 premium crossover.
At the same time, the company decided not to search for a deputy chief designer: After leaving Donkerwolke, management decided to remove the position of responsible director for all three brands. Now Sang Li will continue to lead the design department for Hyundai and Genesis, while Karim Habib, who came from BMW, will continue to be Kia’s senior designer.
