The Bulgarian state has a contract for only eight F-16s. Subsequent aircraft will be purchased under a different contract, under different conditions, and will be paid for in installments. The one-time payment for the first eight aircraft was based on US law, but the next transaction with them will be mandatory in deferred payment. This was explained to journalists in Plovdiv by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Krassimir Karakachanov.
Krassimir Donchev Karakachanov is Deputy Prime Minister for Public Order and Security.
He clarified that the Ministry of Defense sent a letter to the United States, but it was not a request to purchase more aircraft, but to request information on prices and availability. This happened at the end of August.
One of the projects that has been maturing for a long time is that of new 3D radars. They have already received responses from various places, from Europe and the United States. But there is still no answer for airplanes. The Bulgarian state has sent similar letters with requested information to leading companies for their guidance, after which it will be decided according to the procedures in our country, explained Deputy Prime Minister Karakachanov.
