Eight proven cases of the new version of COVID-19 in Bulgaria. The positive samples came out this afternoon. This was made clear in a statement by the director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev.

“We tested in eight of the samples from Bulgarian citizens the presence of these 17 mutations. Today the sequencing of the first group of 48 materials finished, for which our objective was clear: to prove indisputably the existence of the new version,” he explained NOVA Prof. Kantardzhiev.
Bulgarians with a proven new option are admitted to hospitals and are in relatively good condition.
He reported that a study is being launched on the distribution of the new variant in the country. Thus, in a few days it will be clear to what extent these strains circulate in Bulgaria.

Some of the patients have recently returned from Western Europe. Professor Kantardzhiev asked the Bulgarians who come from there, especially those from Great Britain, to observe the measures, be examined and not join their relatives.
“The most important thing is that the current vaccines are also against this new British version of the strain, they work. The downside is that the strain spreads more easily from person to person. So far, it does not show that it is much more serious than the course of the disease, ”explained the director of the NCIPD to NOVA.

The director of the NCIPD also commented on the words of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, according to whom the new version is more deadly. Professor Kantardzhiev clarified that so far no such evidence exists and it is necessary to prove it medically.
