Judd Lowe has long emerged from the sweet image he had built early in his acting career. The last test was his role as Pope Pius XIII in the series “The Young Pope” and in its sequel “The New Pope” by Paolo Sorentino. Now he will once again demonstrate his remarkable talent for recreating even the coldest human emotions with his participation in another television production: “The Third Day”.
His character is called Sam. He is a London businessman trying to solve his personal problems by driving through the English countryside.
He stops his car to talk to his wife on a deserted and dusty road, but comes across an unusual sight – a teenage girl attempting suicide. Sam manages to save her and offers to take her home. And it is located on the nearby island of Osii, which can only be reached at low tide. Otherwise, the tide floods the bridge with the highway and its 93 inhabitants remain temporarily isolated from the world.
On the island, Sam leaves the girl in the care of the owners of the local pub, which also has a hotel. And since the tide has already risen, Judd Lowe’s character is forced to stay on the isolated island. Thus, little by little, in just a few hours, he got to know the majority of the inhabitants of Hosea, learning about the party they were preparing, as well as their strange customs, based largely on Celtic mythology.
Soon, Sam realizes that his family is connected to the small island and he cannot leave it as quickly and easily as he thought.
Judd Lowe starred in only 3 episodes of the psychological thriller “The Third Day” and this is quite intentional. The series, produced by Brad Pitt, is divided into three parts, each with a seasonal title and 3 episodes.
Under the motto “Summer” is the story with the character of Judd Lowe. The second part is “Autumn” and it will have a completely different format, like a unique show that will take place live in front of the audience.
The production team describes it as a “great immersive theatrical event” that will allow fans of “The Third Day” to follow the story of its occurrence. Judd Lowe will also participate in the event.
Before the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, the idea was for more ordinary people to go with the series’ crew to the island so that they could freely communicate with the actors and merge with the story. But social distancing measures now require a change in concept. “We are still sure that what is happening will feel like a real event. Today we are more and more used to experiencing and seeing different things online, through televisions, tablets and mobile phones. The original idea was to continue the drama which takes place after episode 3. And we will really make it happen, but without 2,000 visitors to be a part of it, “Judd Lowe told USA Today.
The live broadcast begins at 9am English time (11am in Bulgaria) on October 3 on Sky Arts TV. Among the other celebrities viewers will then see will be English singer Florence Welch, lead singer of the band Florence and The Machine.
The team will continuously show live with a camera for 12 hours what is happening to them. “There will be no mobile phones anywhere. I am one of those people who likes to leave their jiesema as far as possible and as often as possible. So the idea of being away from him for 12 hours is a paradise for me. “Judd Lowe explains. The team has a clear awareness of what will happen in these 12 hours, but the actor himself explicitly asks not to reveal all the details, because he wants to have a more reliable reaction. Thus, Lowe, who plays equally well Hamlet from Broadway and an action hero on the big screen, he will be able to show in one day what the experience of the theater scenes and the Hollywood box office has taught him.
The third part of the series will be under the motto “Winter” and in it the story will show a new main character: the mother of two girls, Helen. In her place is actress Naomi Harris, known for her roles as Tia Dalma from “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Moneypen from the last two James Bond films. Helen and her daughters go to the island of Hosea on a family trip and in search of answers. But now the landscape there is very different from before, at once strange and terrifying, slightly suggesting what awaits us.
Although at first it seems that the two stories “Summer” and “Winter” have nothing in common, viewers will soon discover that this is not the case.
The beginning of the “Third Day” in our country was on September 15 and on HBO, and on the channel’s streaming service – HBO GO. The new episodes will be released every Tuesday at 9 pm on HBO.
Aside from his new series, Judd Lowe’s name appeared in the media this week and, for one more thing, the actor himself revealed that his wife Philippa Cohn gave birth to their first child. Lowe, 47, already has five children from previous relationships. His oldest son, Rafferty, is 23 and his youngest daughter, Ada, is five.
The news of the appearance of his sixth son Lowe announced, among other things, in a television interview, which he gave in a video link from London. He explained how he copes with the isolation of the coronavirus, how much his garden helps him, which is “a blessing.” Then he said, “And on top of that, we have a baby!”
