World champion Anthony Joshua knocked out Kubrat Pulev in the ninth round. The Bulgarian first fell in a knockdown after the uppercut. He stood up before the judge counted to eight. Right after that, Joshua knocked him out with his right hand and the match ended.
This is Pulev’s second career loss and second in a world title match. In 2014, he was knocked out by then-champion Vladimir Klitschko.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, predicted a knockout between the sixth and ninth rounds before the game. After the meeting, he said he would work towards a match with Tyson Fury, who currently holds the WBC title. If Joshua beats him, he will have all the titles.
“I am looking forward to the next game, it is a difficult game, you should not feel very comfortable as a champion“Joshua said after the game. He explained that this was his first meeting in over a year and now he wants to fight earlier to keep his momentum going.
“Boxing is less talking and more action“said the world champion.
On the uppercut he sent Pulev down, Joshua explained that he was inspired by Mike Tyson.
