Miodrag Jesic speaks to Match Telegraph in the third qualifying round match between CSKA and B36 Torshavn of the Faroe Islands.
Mr Yeshnch, CSKA will have a seemingly easy match with B36 Torshavn. Did you play against a team from the Faroe Islands?
– I played there as a footballer. As a coach, no. So the difference was huge. Now their quality has improved, but they are still far from European teams.
There is a big difference in the classes with the previous rival of the “reds” – BATE (Borisov).
– B36 is a much weaker team. We must not forget that BATE had problems, since due to the coronavirus two main players did not play (BR – Dragun and Stasevich).
The Faroese team arrived 4 days before the game. Does this mean that the B36 should not be underestimated?
– They should not be underestimated in any case. As clichéd as it may sound, there are no easy rivals at this stage.

How do you see CSKA since the beginning of the season?
– The team is in good shape. CSKA played several strong matches, but also several weaker ones. And so it was last season, which finally played a role in the title fight. Now the good thing is that there were difficult victories at the beginning. They may have been achieved without who knows what game, but they are victories. And when CSKA gets in shape and maintains it, they will win without problems. Only with confidence in yourself. Now I would advise CSKA players not to think about the derby with Loko (Pd), which is coming up. Or possibly for Basel. They are much higher in quality than BZ6 Torshavn, but victory cannot be achieved without a pot.
Did you watch the derby between CSKA and Ludogorets, which ended 2: 2?
– Very nice game, I liked it. The truth is that CSKA missed the victory and added two more points to their assets. Lutsgorets played soccer, so it was easy for CSKA. Against closed teams it is sometimes more difficult.
And can Stamen Belchev’s team become champion?
– There are many more games, it is quite early. They have to keep that strong form that they are in now. Like I said, the most important thing in the first rounds was that the team win their matches. Now that they are in a better rhythm, it will be much easier for them to carry theirs.

As if this Ludogorets was not at the level of previous seasons?
– There are still quality players, but they don’t have that much experience. Ludogorets has a class, but we see that there is no permanent form. And the great teams keep up.
Will Loko (Pd) and Beroe be CSKA’s other competitors for first place?
– Loko (Pd) is an example team. They may lose a game, but the impressive thing is that all the players give their best. They went to Razgrad against Ludogorets and won the Super Cup. Recently, they played strong again against Ludogorets, but in a championship match. See how they performed against Tottenham … They really impressed. As for CSKA, they are already like a great team. They win, even when they don’t play hard. Now they are fit, and with such a performance you become the main favorite for the title.
You don’t mention anything about Levski. How do you see them after “Gerena” problems?
– I don’t see them (laughs). I will not comment on the “blue” camp. I wish you the best.
What’s your take on CSKA star Ali Coy?
– He plays well, moves well, goes to positions. The whole game is active, but he does not score as much as the fans want. You need to be a little more humble. To work psychologically, coaches must help you too. If you start scoring any position, CSKA will not stop.
How do you see the summer selection? Currently the new owners are Sankare, Yuga, Keita, Matei and Yomov?
– They take a lot of footballers. And I don’t think so many players should be changed. The truth is that in this way, even if a competitor is good, there is no way to see its quality. I’ve always said that to management: “I don’t want 30 players.” I don’t need an amount. 20 players, plus 4-5 boys from the school, are enough. It is not good to change teams every 6 months or a year.
It is true that there are many conditions to get to the Basel – CSKA match. But still, are the Swiss so scary?
– Let’s be honest: everything is possible in a match. Basel are a strong team, but not invincible. They are great, but they are not that favorites against CSKA. However, let’s let Basel remove Anorthosis before that and CSKA – B36.

You are currently out of work. Is there a possibility of returning to Bulgaria?
– So far I am in contact with clubs in Africa and Asia. I also had suggestions from Europe, but would rather go far. At the moment I have no contact with any Bulgarian team. It would work for you, but now there is nothing official.
