A new ordinance should speed up the removal of abandoned cars in Sofia, which are widely used, from free warehouses to homes for the homeless, BNT reported. Since the beginning of January, the municipality of Sofia can now more easily remove obsolete cars abandoned on municipal and state land. So far, two years have passed since the last annual technical inspection expired, the deadline has been shortened to three months.
As of January 8 it is no longer necessary to wait two years after the last technical inspection, the marked vehicles are a quarter more than before. According to the new rule, after the decal is attached, the three-month period begins, in which the owner can move his car himself. If this does not happen, it must be forcibly transported to a decommissioning site.
“The company is obliged to keep these cars for at least 14 days. If during this time the owner, or a person authorized by him, wants to return the car, he must pay the corresponding fees paid by the company ”, explained the engineer Polina Assenova., Head of the Parking Control Sector” Inspection of Sofia “.
The expert commission, which identifies the cars for removal, includes the region’s ecologist, a policeman and an inspector from the municipality.
“Citizens can first send their signals to the district administrations at the Sofia Inspectorate in the official email at the office. In a month, 238 cars were robbed and 36 were forcibly relocated,” added engineer Polina Assenova.
Annually, around 2,000 vehicles are identified in Sofia, which are subject to removal.
