Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has officially nominated his candidacy for the presidential elections.

Laporta gave a press conference in which he announced his intention to fight for the first place in the next extraordinary vote on January 24 after the resignation of Josep Bartomeu.

Laporta was president of Barça from 2003 to 2010, when the Catalans reaped unique success and the team was led by Pep Guardiola. Then the head of the “Camp Nou” became Sandro Rossel, who left in 2014 due to the huge scandal surrounding Neymar’s transfer.

Rossel was also arrested in 2017 and spent two years in prison. The last Barça boss was Josep Maria Bartomeu, who was Russell’s substitute.

“I want to unite the Barcelona community. It is time to unite to lead the team to success, to glory. We must not look back. I am presenting my candidacy because I love Barça, the whole community, the fans, La Masia and to the club, Laporta said.

The businessman has an excellent relationship with the team’s megastar Leo Messi and will make it impossible for him to stay at the Camp Nou. The same happens with Guardiola, who, however, returned to sign for Man City.
