Instead of the expected slow and gradual lifting of restrictive measures, the Greek government surprisingly introduced a full quarantine on January 11.
In an emergency briefing, government spokesman Stelios Pezas announced strict bans, which will take effect tomorrow at 6 a.m. Beauty salons and bookstores are closing again, and stores with a pre-set schedule to visit are banned. Only grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations remain open.
The afternoon hours are again from 9 pm to 5 am.
Exit is allowed only in case of emergency and at work.
This is a personal decision by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, explained the unexpected move by government spokesman Pezas. The measures are intended to control the infection before all schools open on January 11.
In Greece, restrictive measures have been introduced since the beginning of November, which has completely changed the epidemiological situation.
The protocol for entering Greece is unchanged, and together with the mandatory negative test for coronavirus of all who enter the country, a rapid border test is carried out, the three-day quarantine is mandatory.
The opposition has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Education, accusing him of failing to provide security for children at school and of quarantining the entire country.
