Bulgaria does not pay attention to the problem of earthquakes and is not prepared. This was stated by Eng. Dimitar Kumanov from the Chamber of Investment Design Engineers of the Bulgarian National Radio on the occasion of the last major earthquake in Croatia.
“We will be hit by an earthquake that will revolve around us,” he warned.
We do not have prepared teams that will now go to help in Croatia, explained Mr. Kumanov.
“In Bulgaria, there should have been teams of volunteers trained and equipped to be dispatched. /…/ We have no teams ready at the moment. These are formed by announcements from the Chamber of Engineers.”
“We were terribly embarrassed in Albania,” Dimitar Kumanov said. “In Albania, we were like poor relatives,” he added, citing the example of the Turkish and Macedonian teams. “Because you can’t go in a suit and tie.”
The advantage of our specialists was the greater experience.
“Rescue teams, as is very clear in Albania, it is highly desirable to have an expert who is a building constructor and understands damaged buildings,” added the specialist. According to him, this person can advise where to dig, what element after which it should be removed so as not to cause further collapse.
In all neighboring countries there are seismic centers with specially equipped platforms for simulations, said Dimitar Kumanov. According to him, 25 million are needed to equip a center of this type in our country, which is currently only “on paper.”
Rules, instructions, procedures for the reaction to earthquakes: Since the earthquake in Pernik, the chamber insists on this, but it does not happen, said Kumanov.
According to Kumanov, the training of volunteers should also include “psychological preparation to deal with human tragedies.”
Meanwhile, it has become clear that two S-27J Spartan jets with Air Force crews will conduct specialized flights to transport humanitarian aid from Bulgaria to those in distress after the earthquake in Croatia. Flights to Zagreb airport are scheduled for January 1. Today, humanitarian aid will arrive at the Vrazhdebna air base, where it will be transferred to planes.
Our country has promised mineral water supplies due to water supply problems. Bulgaria is also ready to send tents, blankets, as well as to send rescuers and specialists for the evaluation and safety of buildings damaged by the earthquake, the Council of Ministers announced yesterday.
