Authorities in the Swedish city of Lund scattered chicken droppings in Central Park to avoid mass celebrations on Walpurgis night, the Sydsvenskan newspaper reported.
The city is known for one of the largest universities in the country and is home to some 125,000 students. At the same time, Sweden has a tradition of celebrating Walpurgis Night, a holiday that dates back to pre-Christian times.
According to this ancient custom, festivities are organized in the open air, fires are lit, and “evil spirits” are persecuted.
According to Gustav Lundbladom, head of the Lund Municipal Council’s environmental commission, this year’s massive celebrations could lead to a new coronavirus outbreak, making the idea of spreading bird droppings in the park quite appropriate. At the same time, the municipalities are unanimous in that this will serve for the spring fertilization of the plants.
The only disadvantage of this measure is that the smell will be felt for some time outside the city park.
